Service - 5 Stars it really is exceptional. The manager who was on knew every wine on the list and when we tasted 2 we did not like he opened another.
Food - 4 stars at best.
Starter chicken liver was outstanding. Truly the best we have ever had.
Main wife had the duck she gave 4/5. My steak was 2/5. Unfortunately I was not asked how I liked it and the cut of meat was ok but I was personally less than impressed by this as the steak was well done compared to the medium I like it.
Dessert was nice, marshmallow, chocolate and peanut butter with passionfruit. It was ok.

I have read the previous reviews and honestly believe they must be written by friends of the chef or people that have never experienced good food. Having moved from the east coast to Perth recently we have been trying different places hoping to find something that lives up to the expensive price tag Perth seems to have. Balthazar was disgusting! Menu, as mentioned by another reviewer, was on an A5 (single side). Prawn cocktail was ONE (1) prawn. Not a jumbo prawn just an ordinary green prawn you would buy from Coles for $18/kg and one piece of greenery and a dot of thousand island sauce - $12! Lamb tartare was ok but the chef needs to look at google and see what tartare should be. Again, the same old dollop of orange sauce, similar to the thousand island dressing on the lone prawn. My pork cheek was ok. My wife had a 180g scotch fillet for $50. If it was good one could probably accept it but it was tough and full of fat. The first thing she said was "your steaks and meals s#%t all over this". The steak was accompanied by one spoonful of mashed potato and one spear of white asparagus. The wine list was presented was not separated into categories or segregated from white or red wines. This was indicative of the entire experience. A lazy, no attention to detail, ordinary chef with a dillusional expectation that people will continue to tolerate such experiences. Lucky one of the waiting staff was pleasant. Wake up Perth, demand much better than this!

I can't believe that a supposedly top class restaurant only offers 6 choices of main course. Talk about not challenging yourself and taking the easy route. The whole menu for food, including entrees and appetisers, filled one side of an A5 piece of card, very classy! We paid $500 for a meal for 4 people with one bottle of wine and one drink each, and left there feeling it wasn't money well spent on a great experience. If you're going to charge that sort of money you need to offer a wider choice of menu. There was no "I really want to try that", it was more "that'll do". When you pay top dollar for an experience, you want an experience, that includes being tempted by what is on offer. The food was well cooked, hence the 2 star review.

Had an amazing meal here a couple of weeks ago. This place has been in Perth forever and it was my first visit. Great intimate venue. Food and service is first class. The staff were amazing and extremely knowledgeable. Don't go here expecting a cheap meal/drinks - but the price is worth it.
